Barn/Studio

Renovation, Restoration, and Transformation

1978-2014

In 1978, the artist Colin Greenly and I moved from our rented New York City loft to this abandoned 100 year old dairy barn with 7 additional smaller barn buildings. After years of full time renovation and restoration, while living in a vintage Airstream, we were able to move in to our living and studio spaces. Over the next 30+ years, we added additional studio space, renovated the other barns, rebuilt the stone walls, and created new gardens.

2015-Present

In 2015, Brian Auwarter and I began to renovate the unfinished portion of the barn into a studio for Brian. We added new storge areas by transforming some of the existing smaller barns and built a new garage building and welding shed. We did extensive excavation and added new retaining walls to accomodate the new structures. The property is now filled with Brian's sculptures.
